A lot of companies in the USA are not educated about shipping out of the
country and are not responsive to such inquiries. It does seem reasonable to
expect a reply though, even if is only "Sorry, we don't export".

There are other issues about payment security as well. Credit cards seem
easy and are easy until something goes wrong and the card holder complains
to his bank. Then the bank simply extracts the $$ from the company's bank
account and the company is left to fight it out with the customer.

For a small company the reward is not high enough to accept the risk in
most cases.

Hi all,

I promised to provide a summary of the responses I received. Thanks first
to KZ1W and N4ZR.
(Grant: I tried to reply to your email address on several occasions and it
got bounced... worth checking)

The recommendations were to shop at:
http://custommetalworks.com/rts/rts.htm
I have emailed twice (a month ago) to no avail :(.

Grant also stated "KX0G rings are well thought out and super duty".
Emailed here numerous times over last 6mths ago to no avail :(.

My experience suggests that if a company cannot answer sales enquiries in
a week or two, don't expect them to answer post-sales service claims
ever... so given I am on the other side of the planet and a complex and
demanding
customer, I have dropped these leads.

For guying material, Pete recommended "pultruded fiberglass guy rod" as
used at some of PVRC's big stations. Several hours of Googling for such in
Europe yielded "Europe, no points" :(.

So I have concluded that linearcomposites.com and fibremax.nl are alone
over here. I did poke around the surplus markets in the UK's larger
shipyards (Plymouth / Aberdeen), but it's a bit hit and miss given that they
may
have 1000m today and then none for years...((the same material is used on
platforms and all sorts out at sea).

On the ring and base front...well Ranko (4O3A) is answering his emails, so
he has a head start on the rest :).

Thank you all for this one, and for all your banter on the reflector that
makes for good bed-time reading ;-).
