There is a big difference between gusto needed to PULL something as opposed
to LIFTING something. Asking questions about winches (note I said winches
and not WENCHES such as my mother-in-law) are many times answered on the

The duty cycle is very low.
The winch is not necessarily
designed for controller descent.
(It is for getting your jeep
out of a rut; not for doing a
controlled descent down into
a rut). The brake is not
necessarily designed for long
term holding. Etc.
Whenever you repurpose something,
it takes a lot of due dilligence
to confirm that it will work in an
unintended application.
