I haven't put a tent up for many years, but I remember the quick disconnect
tent poles from my youth. You pushed in a wire spring to release the tube.
Maybe this could be fitted to your elements. Sure beats that tape goooo. Mike

You can make the holes a bit oversize. It's not like you're worried
about the tolerances getting sloppy in 10 years of wind induced movement.

Actually, what might be easiest is this: glue a thin ring on the smaller
of the two pieces so that it butts up against the larger piece when it's
inserted to the right length. Slide it in with a snug fit some turns of
tape, and you're done.

Why put *any* fastener in. It only has to survive for a couple days,
and duct tape will do that just fine.

You don't need hose clamps, screws, rivets, etc.

Your pre-FD prep would be cleaning up the elements a bit before
assembly, throwing away that icky roll of tape from last year that's
oozed over everything, and buying a new roll a tape.

the tent pole shock cord technique would work real well with this scheme
too.
