*ALL* snap-ons are inferior to similarly sized "solid" toroids. The
split reduces the ability of the magnetic flux to move through the
core because the gap at even the most highly polished split(s).
I don't have the numbers at my finer tips but one can certainly look up
the specifications of similar split and non split cores (same material,
same size) for a better understanding of the phenomena. Look at Jim's
"cookbook" and compare the effectiveness of chokes made with solid vs.
snap-on cores for another set of data points.

Is it a reference to ferrites that snap on forming only one "turn," or is it
applicable to any split ferrite? Does that include eight-turn chokes on Biggest Clamp-on
ferrites?

He's absolutely correct. Many times I've posted a link to my tutorial on the
topic. I spent years learning how this stuff works, and months writing it up. I
won't repeat it here. Only the link. k9yc.com/RFI-Ham.pdf

I was reading the recent QST article RF Mayhem by WB8IMY. The author said to
avoid using snap-on ferrites for problems caused by HF signals as they
rarely work well at HF. It is best to stick with circular cores.
Is this correct? I was not aware that snap-ons were less effective.
