Hello all. I am obviously new here and wanted to know how to "get into" ham
or generally learn more about ham.
I know this could potentially be done a thousand different ways, so I am
looking for a beginner's guide, a "Ham for Dummies" or a few websites that
are good resources to visit. I would rather get the info from experienced
hams instead of stumbling around in the dark for extended periods of time :)

Since long before I became a ham (60 years ago), most prospective hams
have one or more mentors. A good place to find them is at a ham club
that's local to you. Where do you live? There's a very good chance that
there are hams on this email reflector within easy range of you.

When we were in undergrad school, we had to really hustle
up the gear for a FD operation. No more vertical; just a long
long wire and a DX-35. To us, it WAS a contest, of sorts.
We lost an hour out of the total and it was like we are
on a charcoal fire to recover. You bet we checked our
points in the end.
