Hello,

I agree, with split / ruptured legs, integrity unknown ... I would not
recommend climbing it either.

Cut the legs and drop it.

Last year, someone contacted me to fix an antenna on their tower.
Inspection of the base, all three legs were split.

I turned down the job.

Stay safe folks,
James

Hi, not knowing ALL the facts….
IF I had a clear fall AREA I would cut it down with a 4” cutting wheel.    Wit
h38 ft you should be able to salvage
35 ft .    the antenna would be TOAST

I would NEVER climb the thing…

 You can pick up 3
sections of good used Rohn 25 in the Dallas area for$50-75 a
section. How does that compare to lift delivery and
rental?IF this involves removal for an elderly widow of an
SK, then that's a different story. (Also consider is the
 base inconcrete?)Fred KC5YN

With the cost of the lift and the
time involved to remove and transport, and you'll only
end up with 3 usable sections, providing the others
aren't damaged.  Is it worth it.
 Just
 my opinion.

 Hello Oh Wise
Gents!I have the opportunity to obtain a 40, (38), foot Rohn
25G for free. But I will have to take it down. I have no
idea how long it's been in the air but I would guess
many years. The bottom section has TWO splits, one per leg,
where it must have frozen and ruptured, so no climbing it.
I'm considering a rented man lift to take each section
off.So my question is "generally speaking", how
difficult is it to separate the sections? Considering that
I'll use a gin pole and a tower jack
installation/removal tool. The antenna that is up there is
what looks to be a VHF commercial ground plane, so no real
 weight was up there.
 I know this is a
leading question, but I'd like a little insight as to
what I'm up against. What tricks does the experienced
guys here have to suggest? Thanks much!!!Tom
