Joe,

I also use the plastic cutting boards for insulator material.  I use the white 
ones, they are about 3/8" thick.
I have been using them like you about 10 years and no problems from the sun.  
Nice and easy to cut 
and drill.  I round the corners around the drilled holes so no sharp corners to 
cut the antenna rope.
