I thought of that, but couldn't figure out how to secure the top end of the lifeline without climbing up there. Perhaps there's some mechanism which would do that. Otherwise, the halyard has to be as strong as the lifeline.

One could even leave some junk rope rigged and pull the halyard up with it for 
the next job.
