If this is for a temporary winter antenna I am still questioning why you would want to remove the ground rod and then later re-install it. If you're removing it for mowing, you could cut it at ground level and put it in an irrigation valve box for easy access later. At my QTH, I wish that I could get an 8' rod into the ground and I would never think about removing it.
