I’d start by asking Jeff W2FU if he can recommend a compass. They already support an analog inclinometer that works great with Az/El systems. The RT-21 pot excitation (7.5V) powers it and the ADC treats the voltage as if it came from a pot. So in principle, any compass that puts out 0-5V could work.
