The only dedicated coax strippers I use are those designed for CATV
coax. These are the only cables for which I use crimp connectors, and I
use those cables extensively for RX antennas, both for ham radio
(Beverages, loops) and off-the-air FM and TV. The first F-connectors I
installed were in Chicago's Sears Tower for a CATV system, then new
construction. In those years, F-connectors were primitive compared to
even the cheap stuff today.
All of my feedlines to towers are long runs of 7/8-in hard line, so use
connectors designed for those lines. All other TX feedlines, as well as
rotator loops and short sections from hard line to grounding/arrestor
panel are a good RG8 or RG11, terminated with 83-1SP connectors that are
hand soldered. Patch cables in the shack for antenna switching and
routing are RG400 with silver-plated 83-1SPs and reducers. Mostly I
strip with razor blades. Over the years, I've installed hundreds of
83-1SPs.
