Actually the 83-1SP is almost $6 each in 100 quantities at DigiKey

Most of us don't need 100. DX Engineering sells them for $7.50 each if you
buy 6 and shipping is free if you spend over $99.
A new Amphenol 83-1SP is clean, has new plating and new insulation. I do
not recycle them but I have recycled larger Andrew/Commscope connectors.

This is certainly more than I paid for them in 1965 when they were
$0.49/each for the same connector, but according to the "inflation
calculator," it's actually cheaper than they were back then ($.49 then is
$4.89 today): https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/
Not bad.
