I think the answer is you need to go by the part numbers - exactly - as in
83-1SP, without any additional letters/numbers. You did not specify what
connectors he was replacing, so assuming UHF. Or go to the Amphenol website
and read the specs for whatever connectors he is interested in or to figure
out what he had before the fire. And as you said, buy from known vendors
to avoid counterfeits.
Newark has good price breaks and probably free shipping assuming he needs
25 or so.
