Alan,
I have used HyTower verticals for many years. I have used the what I think were
the original base loading coils for both 80 and 160 meters. They resemble Air
Dux 2in dia coils if memory serves me. I had tapped the coil close to the top
per the installation instructions (say around 3 to 4 turns down from the top)
and that worked well for the lower end of 80 CW. Recently, I chose to ground
the bottom of the coil and tap it up 3 to 4 turns and that works very well too.
This example is for a HyTower only used on 80M.
Hope this makes some sense. If questions, let me know.
DXEngineering makes a coil for matching - Link here: DXE that should work. In
my first installation with the coil installed per the HyTower directions, I ran
a full 1.5 KW with no problems. In my second example I have not tried that much
power but it should handle full power without problems. BTW - I have no
interest in DXEngineering. Just a coil that looks like it should work.

I'm looking to installed an 80m loading coil in my 18HT tower to use for CW
and FT8 and which will handle at least 1KW (FLL would be better). Not sure
if anything is still available from MFJ but can someone advise me what I
could buy (with part numbers and/or construction details)? I would prefer
NOT to use a tuner when using the antenna on 80m.
