Hi all,
I had a very rough attempt at the 432 Sprint. It all looked so good when I
started, but soon went to you know where in a hand basket! I chatted with
W4SHG in Virginia before the sprint began. Steve was peaking S7 or 8.
Things started slow, and after 1/2 hour, I had top leave for home to put the
beagles in the house for their beauty rests. (I am dog sitting this week)
They were running around in the dark having a ball of course. I got them
inside, and then got back at the shack just before 8PM and noticed that
there were many more signals on the band. Maybe they were just pointing this
way, but it appeared activity was good. The band was up and down, but on the
up side, things were good. Just after 8:30 PM, my transverter went dead and
I could not hear anything. I diddled around until about 9:15 then called it
quits. I had isolated the problem to an internal failure in the 432 box. It
seemed the second stage in the transverter had crapped out. I retired to my
house to try a repair, but no luck. So I got about 70 minutes of fun, and
several hours of pain in the butt for my efforts.
I was looking for VE3s when things died. All my contacts were between
190 and 260 degrees. I worked no one to my Northeast at all. Some good
catches were K2AN in FN02 (loud) W4SHG in FM08, three stations in FM18!!
Several in FM19, plus FN10 and 11, and FM28. It was nice working W4
stations on 432. I just wish I could have operated the whole period! I
ended up with 34 Qs in 17 grids.
