Hi Ken. My experience is that foliage starts to be a problem at 432 and
by 1296 it is a problem. It also depends on how close the foliage is to
you and how thick it is. Worst case scenario is when you are right up
against foliage on one end of the path (like where you are) ..... often you
can hear the station calling you but they will not hear you. This is one
of the factors that makes roving on the high bands such a challenge. Here
in MN & IA, at this time of year, the corn gets to be eight feet tall and
trying to shooting over it is a problem, especially when you have a tripod
mounted dish for 5760 and up. We encourage those farmers who live at the
grid corners to plant soybeans, a rover friendly crop.

To all, don't forget to send in your ARRL UHF contest logs (paper logs ARE
OK) by Tuesday, September 6th. As of this morning the League has received
99 electronic logs, 16 of which are rover logs.

Also, don't forget that part one of the 10 GHz and Up contest is this
weekend. Part two is a month later. If you are interested in seeing
how fun it is playing microwaves find some local activity in your area and
check it out. Getting on 10 GHz is not difficult and good paths can be
worked with 200mW and a simple horn antenna. Don't forget to watch for
any possible rains scatter paths as well. Good luck to all, have fun,
drive safe.
