I haven't seen it mentioned, but there is still time before the  
contest to get the XV222 from Elecraft and get it assembled and  
operating. At 25 Watts, it will be lots better than the borrowed 5  
Watt one and only 3 dB or so down form DEM's 60 Watt one. You can  
always use the local 222 MHz activity night to check things out in the  
rover before the contest.

But, even the old transverter will be better than nothing. FM will  
work surprisingly well with directive antennas and high power/good  
ears one the other end. - Duffey
