[Sorry to disappoint anyone, but this post has noting to do with captive
roving, pack roving, or the Rules. :-)]
To all the Rovers out there:
You're probably starting to think about where to rove for the January or
June contest and what route you will take (in addition to the usual
stuff about rigs, antennas, etc.). One of the hardest things I've come
across as a Rover is identifying sites to operate from. If you want some
ideas for a site or two, you might stop by the "N2MH RoveSite Locator"
page at http://www.n2mh.net/rovesite.htm . I've been collecting
info about sites that may be useful to Rovers.
At the very least, the site will give you the name of the site, its
geographic coordinates, Grid Locator, and links to map making machines.
You can generate a map that will tell you how to get there, a topo map
of the site itself and even an aerial photo of the site. Additionally,
many sites have an individual description page depending on information
at hand.
Just added is a downloadable GPX file for each 4-digit gridsquare for
download to your GPS or other electronics. Right now, there are mostly
East Coast, West Coast, Texas, and Denver area sites included. However,
if anyone wants to have other locations added, anywhere in the country,
please send them along to me and I'll get them in there.
