Interesting... I would think that by puzzling out the wiring of the switch
one should be able to replace it with "something"... even if it means a
big stack of 4PDT relays and separate pushbuttons for each function!

Just how ancient is this rotator anyway?  I ran into a situation where a
friend of mine obtained a rotator from one source and a controller from
another... both "8 wire" Hygain/CDE devices, but, the rotator wouldn't
turn
when wired with the "standard wire terminal one through eight to terminal
one through eight" so I disassembled the rotator and found out the
internal wiring didn't match that of the schematic of the rotator supplied
with the controller, so I "made it fit"... and, after replacing the
phase-shift capacitor with one that actually worked, I had full rotation,
and, proper indication!
