Pay a visit to http://www.kc9bqa.com for a great post about increasing
June VHF contest activity. The post got long, because I ended up really
trying to educate/recruit any new (or even slightly interested rovers). The
bottom part about the rovers has a lot of solid info that could help get even
a totally new guy/gal started. Think about all the potential rovers in
antenna-restricted areas around your QTH.
Even if you're busy right now, please consider doing this much: Print
the post out and save it for when you've got a little free time. Also, I
totally encourage you to share that post with anyone you think might be a
good roving candidate. Consider sharing the info with your local club.
Don't just limit yourself to the ones you already know are on board with
contesting.
I can tell you first-hand that I've gotten some new rovers from talking
with hams that have little or no VHF/UHF experience. Having the weekly nets
I run has also been key to getting them familiar and comfortable. VHF'ers are
out there, but you need to put some time into encouraging them.
Though the rover deal is a long post, when one has a half hour to digest
what I'm saying, it may pay off in a big way. Please help VHF Contesting by
spreading the word.
Think about what you can do to help promote the contests this summer. In
your backyard, and in your entire region. We all need each other.
