Joseph
 J. Schroeder Jr., W9JUV, age 83, longtime resident of Glenview, passed 
away April 30, 2013. Husband for 55 years of Janet Schroeder, nee Penn; 
father of Brad Schroeder and Elizabeth (John) Anderluh; grandfather of 
Megan, Jamie, and the late Shea Anderluh. Joe had been an active radio 
amateur since 1946, at the top of the DXCC honor roll since 1979. He was
 named one of the top three DX ham radio
 operators in the world by QST magazine, May 2013 issue. He was the co-author 
of the classic Mauser 1896 book, System Mauser, and editor of all five editions 
of the Gun Collectors Digest. Joe was a pilot and member of the Civil Air 
Patrol and was in the Naval Reserve for 11 years.
Visitation
 Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 3 to 7 pm at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp 
Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview (just south of Lake Ave. on 
west side). A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of 
flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 
651 W. Washington Blvd., Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60661 or Cal’s Angels, 
721 Aston Lane South, Elgin, IL 60177.
