It does sound interesting, anyone know if it would be good for Ham
transceiver, assuming you could find a workable amp or amps?

For SDR equipment, there is another interesting 1 that recently hit the
market (and I believe it was designed here in America).
The HackRF ONE, not only is it an SDR receiver it also a transmitter! While
it won't go as low into the HF range as the one you came across, it will go
up to 6 GHz (both RX and TX) which would be of greater benefit to the VHF +
community. The HackRF range is 10 MHz to 6 GHz.
I ordered 1 last week, actually it should be arriving today! For about a
year I've been playing with those cheap $20 RTL-SDR dongles, while only
receive and 25 MHz to 1.7 Ghz been having a lot of fun, can only see about 2
MHz of spectrum at any time but what do ya want for $20.00?
The HackRF, only $300.00, while allow you to see 20 MHz of spectrum at any
one time. I plan on using mine for military aircraft reception as well as
venture into some of the more satellite work.

A few months ago, I sold my Perseus SDR and traded up to the Elad
FDM-S2, which covers up to 160 MHz, and has a bandwidth of about 6 MHz.
Haven't even had time to take it out of the box yet, but in the
meantime, a new SDR receiver has hit the market.
This SDR boasts 8 MHz of bandwidth, and covers from 100 GHz to 2 GHz.
This would allow the user to monitor things like the NOAA Weather Radio
band, amateur radio bands including 6 Meters, 2 Meters, 222, 432, 902,
and 1296, etc. So far, I haven't seen any reviews from hams or dedicated
DX'ers. But it's also half the cost of the Elad at only $300 USD.
