[VHFcontesting] FT-847 CAT/Antenna Tuner Question

A friend recently obtained a Yaesu FT-847 to add 6/2/70 to his stable of 
equipment. (For the first time, he can now access the weak signal VHF bands!)

The operating manual states that a user can do C.A.T. with the radio, which he 
loves & is successfully doing, but cannot utilize the built-in antenna tuner at 
the same time!

Is anyone familiar with a hardware modification or software modification which 
will permit him to utilize both of these great features at the same time?
