Hello everyone....I got an MFJ-856(power line noise detector) assembled today and was preparing to go outside and look for all the nasty power line noise that we have. I happened to wave it around the shack and I found some strong noise.....tracing it down, we found that all of our APC UPS systems(except one) were emitting a boatload of RF crap!!

We also found a simple power strip that was radiating like crazy. How can a simple power strip produce loads of RF junk??? Beats me.

So, now I need to replace all my UPS units with something that does not make noise. I have asked a salesman type person and they don't have a clue about RF noise. None of the UPS units seem to pay any attention to that...it certainly is not part of their specs.

Does anyone know of a brand / model of UPS that does not emit a bunch of RFI?? I don't need a huge UPS for each station, but I need something that is quiet. AFTER we fix the noise in-house, we will go outside and start with the noise that is coming in on the antennas. I know that I have a bunch of power line noise too, but I need to have a clean house before I start with the power company.

I also want to find some power cords, like those on computers and monitors, that have the built in noise suppressors. I don't know where to order those from either.

Thanks for any advice / recommendations. If anyone works in that world I would really appreciate hearing from them.

I hope to get these UPS units replaced before the CQ WW VHF contest......by the way, I will be looking for everyone on 6M and 2M in the CQ contest....18 and 19 July....
