This is a bit past its prime, but it's good to remember for future
activities.

I just got around to looking at my UBN report (Unique/Broken/Not-In-Log,
which is generated for every contest by the ARRL Contest Branch for every
entrant) for the September VHF test and, like every contest, found a couple
of problems not of my making.

In particular, instances of being "Not-In-Log" of stations I contacted
because of a failure of "the other guy" to actually convert the QSO into a
logging entry (Yes - before someone brings it up, the QSOs were actually
made (confirmed with the other side of the Q after the fact)). Also,
instances of "logging what was heard" in the case of Rovers not signing as
Rovers and then sending in their log as /R (Yes, those QSOs can and will be
yanked from your log).

In September, it wasn't a big deal for me, as I was part-time and not a
serious entry. But I know through correspondence with others that it
happens a lot and routinely shows up in UBN reports, year after year.

So, remember that YOUR logging accuracy can have a direct and detrimental
effect on the guys you work. The "Not-In-Log" thing happens and all you
can do is try and be as accurate in your logging as possible, but, if you
are a Rover station, be vigilant in signing /R at all times - it makes a
difference.
