I built one of these for 2M for a ham neighbor. 
The half-folded dipole design provides a 
perfect match direct feed to 50 Ohm coax, 
no balun required - simplicity itself. 
Lowes Home centers carry AWG 6 
bare copper wire by the foot which is 
what I used for the driven element.
