Pat Dyer, WA5IYX co-authored a remarkable article with Emil Pocock, W3EP in 
March, 1992 QST regarding sporadic-E. "Contrary to much popular wisdom, 
correlations with solar and geomagnetic indexes are surprisingly weak."  A link
