I think sometimes there are some very smart people who know all the
theory, can quote numerous engineering formulas for whatever the
application but get so lost in the weeds that they don't ever try to
experiment "outside the box" and see just what can be done on with
limited skills, knowledge and a marginal budget.

Half the fun of ham radio is being able to take a pile of junk, cobble
it all together, get it on the air and make q's regardless whether its
a perfect engineering marvel or not.
