Kim,

While I am unaware of an online user group for the FT-736R, I will
make a comment on computer control of that radio.  If I recall
correctly, the 736 has an unusual computer control arrangement in that
frequencies may be commanded to it, but it has no facility to read
back the frequency.  My recollection is that this fact is not
immediately obvious unless you look carefully at the CAT command set.
I believe this was included for LEO satellite operators who wanted an
automatic Doppler correction from their satellite tracking software.
Of course, the ability to read the frequency/band is far more valuable
to terrestrial weak signal operators...  Perhaps this addresses your
question?
