Folks, this is a self fulfilling prophecy. No one operates on 2M from the
Bahamas because no one knows if there is any propagation and no one knows if
there is any propagation because no one operates on 2M from the Bahamas. A
beacon would allow folks to determine when and how often the band is open. I
operated from the Bahamas in June 2015 with AA7A, K2KW and others. We operated
on 6M and 2M EME. Made a lot of Qs on both bands and had a lot of fun. May do
it again someday. We had a lengthy discussion around bringing another 2M
antenna for terrestrial. In the end we decided not to do it. Additional
weight for an uncertain outcome. If we had known that there is a reasonable
chance of some propagation we might have come to a different decision. Plus we
have WSJT modes now that we didn’t have in 2015. My vote is for a beacon and
if it runs some of the WSJT modes so we can see how well those perform that is
even better.
