Hi Folks,
I finally retired (for good this time!!) two weeks ago. I'm working through
all the computers I have left. There will be laptops and desktops, mostly
i5's with a few i7 desktops. All have 16GB memory and 250GB SSD's. After
these are gone, that's it. All will have Windows 11 Pro activated either
24H2 or 25H2 (which was just released).
If you are interested, please reply to this email, NOT the reflector! and
please do not call, I organize by emails only.
Over the past several years, I've been able to supply over 200 desktops and
laptops to my amateur radio friends with many repeats. The company I worked
for had a policy that once a computer was out of warranty (which is 3 yrs
for Dell), they were replaced. A lot of computers didn't get deployed right
away so some had only been used less than a year. Desktops always seem to
be in better shape since they weren't carried around but I cherry picked
the best laptops. As computers approach the 5 year old mark, the only
things that seem to ever go bad are CPU fans, which get pretty noisey
first, and the coin cell batteries that hold the time and custom bios
settings. Dell desktops use CR2032 batteries that are available everywhere
and are pretty easy to replace. You know it's time when the system
complains about the time/date not being set. After the battery is replaced,
there are a couple of changes to the bios that need to be made. You must
change the SATA configuration from RAID to AHCI or the system won't boot.
Second is under performance, turn off Intel speed step. This drops the
speed of the processor to conserve energy but does affect performance so I
always turn it off.
I have some spare parts and will continue to support any I've sold as long
as I can.
I will post an exact list of what's available in the next week.
