Hello VHFers,

Well, conditions were rather poor on Tuesday night, but there was activity around for sure. I worked a total of 23 stations.  I did not try any meteor skeds, but did try a rather long tropo attempt with VA3IKE. Ike is just over 600 miles from me. He runs about 25-30 watts on 222, so a contact at that distance is rare. Last night, he was copying me via Q65B-60 at -25 to -27 but I could see nothing here. I did know he was calling as i would see a few tones appear, but no decodes.I was probably detecting meteor reflections.  I did manage to work K3SK at about 575 miles using Q65. I could not hear him on CW. Dave was hearing bits of me on CW, but it was so weak  that it was not readable.  My other long haul contacts were with WA3EOQ on CW in FM09JO at 500 miles and W8ZN near Winchester, VA on FT8 at just under 500 miles. N8LRG was on early from central Ohio. I went to try a sked with him, but I was too late and he had left the building.  That is too bad. I was hoping to see what we could hear on that path.  Here is my log:

I have been working on repairing my ten meter tower and put in a bit of work today adding another tower section to get up to 50 ft. It is looking great. I had a used section all set to put up, but noted that it was losing its galvanized coating in places, so I decided to prime the section and then give a final coat of aluminum or silver paint so it looks OK. My new ham buddy in town showed up and we grabbed another Rohn 45 section then he helped me to install the tower section at the 50 ft level. It was windy, so I was glad he was there to haul up and down on the winch so I could easily drop the tower section in place. I was worried about the wind, so I was glad he stopped by.  I gave him about 90 ft of old tower sections so he can get some antennas up and get on the air. Matt also asked me what was the best code key to get and that he is learning CW with a phone app. I gave him a Vibroplex electronic paddle along with an AEA keyer so he will be all set for code practice. The AEA keyer actually has a code practice session in memory.  Matt seems to be all fired up and is looking forward to getting on HF. He is already not happy with 2M FM. He can't find anyone to even talk to there!
