OK it us snowing in the Northeast and the roads will be a tad slippery.
So ditch those plans for egg-nog, caroling and bar hopping and stay
home and make some noise on 222 MHz. Who knows you might even hear a
Christmas carol on 222.100 this evening. The snow will be falling at 7
PM (EST) when the activity ramps up, and I hope to be sitting in the
chair at the 222 MHz rig making noise. Activity gets rolling starting a
bit before 00:00 UT and can continue past 0200 depending on activity.
There is almost nationwide activity, so you can most likely find a
station to converse with. Parts of the country are pretty thin with
active stations so it is a good idea to make urself known on a chat page
and drum up some activity. We use ON4KST on the East Coast but I think
some folks also utilize Slack as well to keep tabs on what is going on.
K1PXE did not make any contacts on 222, so no prize winners were
announced for last week. I am not sure of any prize for this week as it
is so close to Christmas and the esteemed 222 MHz Activity Committee is
quite involved in holiday activities. I do know that WA3EOQ promises to
be on at an early hour, so look for Howard in FM09 if he has not been
buried in snow or ice. I also became aware of an EME support page that
is now including 222 MHz operators. Check it out at
https://dxer.site/eme-observer/ It looks like a good way to set up
skeds and find the days that are best for success. Send in some data if
you are interested in making some 222 EME contacts. There are a number
if stations on 222 all salivating at the thought of a new station to
contact. (I am one of them)
I hope to make a few contacts on 222 tonight. Merry Christmas and get
ready for 2026!
