I am trying to interface The so called "Switch Gizzie" from Bill Henry's
(K9GWT) article in The New RTTY Journal Aug 1999 page 8.
It is a switch box which uses PTT to switch between a HF modem and Sound
Board modem so that one does not have to fumble with cable changes when
switching digital modes. It has 2 relays each of which is selected by PTT
action.
The relay which controls Soundboard transmission is activated by PTT
switching controlled by a serial port ( I am using the DTR signal
transition). This works well with Digipan in PSK31 mode.
The relay which controls the DXP38 uses PTT switching control from the DXP38
and is also working well with Writelog.
So far I have been unable to get AFSK going with Writelog. I can read RTTY
signals OK with the soundcard in LSB; however, I cannot figure out where to
get a DTR signal to activate the relay which controls soundcard
transmission.
In AFSK mode with Writelog v 10, the 1000MP keys because its PTT is
controlled by its own serial interface, where Writelog asserts DTR and RTS,
but the audio output from the sound card does not get switched back into the
XCVR to drive it. If I turn up the audio output from the soundcard I can
hear the AFSK output of the sound card leaking to the monitor circuit so
apparently the soundcard is generating AFSK.
I see that Writelog has CW Keyer PTT control. Is there a simple way to get
Writelog to read the DTR/RTS transitions, while in AFSK or PSK31 mode, from
a serial port which is not connected to the rig itself - similar to the way
Digipan does it?
