Barry,
I find good results at 8000 Hz, 16 bit compression. Any lower
resolution seems to introduce too much distortion. In sound board
options, I believe you have to check boxes 1, 4, 5 to start the
recording. Set the compression after clicking on the button on lower
right. So far as I know there is no easy way to switch it on and off at
will; you have to go into that menu and change the settings to turn it
off. Having an easily accessible switch woud really be nice.
