I tried WL 10.22C this weekend for the first time. I used a Pent 233 and
Win98se with a ByteRunner 4 port card. My setup is Com 1-3 and Com 6-8. I
used a PK-232 to run CW on Com 3 (ByteRunner) and Telnet on Com 8. WL was
in CT compatibility mode.
The software generally worked OK except that I could not hit 2 F-keys in
succession when searching and pouncing. The second key is not sent and I
had the same unsent message problem as I will describe for running. I had
other problems like duped seq. numbers which were reported by others.
When running, the first 2-3 times I hit F1 to CQ, I got a help screen.
After a few tries, this didn't happen.
When I got replies. I found that the Insert and + keys didn't work as
described. I was forced to do the following:
Call CQ; enter the call, hit space, F5 for his call, F2 for the exchange
which never worked the first time. I always had to hit it twice. Receive
his data, Enter to log.
The next F3 to QRZ or F1 to CQ results in the previously unsent exchange
being sent. Esc ends this. Then F1/F3 works OK. The result was so many
keystrokes and so confusing that I could not run and had to S&P the entire
contest.
I found that hitting an F key before a previous F key press completed, i.e.
to send my call twice could only be done by waiting for the first press to
finish sending. Not waiting resulted in nothing sent the second time, BUT
pressing a different F key, i.e. to send the exchange, resulted in the
unsent call being sent. I found in the heat of battle that WL consistently
left unsent F key data in a buffer somewhere and would then send it when a
different F key was pressed later on.
I don't recall anyone reporting this type of program behavior and I thought
it might have something to do with using the PK-232 for CW keying. Any
ideas? If I have a configuration or other setup problem, I need to get it
fixed ASAP.
