I know there was a question about this recently, but I don't recall seeing
any response, so I dug into the problem a little further since I'm trying
to get the logs set up for Field Day:
For Field Day, I need to set up a couple of additional bands (1.25M and
70cm) and change some existing bands (add FM to the phone band entry for 2
meters).
So how to do that?
* Adding the extra bands (via the Band | Setup Bands) dialog seems to work
"mostly" OK. QSOs made on a new band are scored correctly, BUT the
auto-fill when working a station on the new band that's already been worked
on one of the existing bands does NOT work **This seems like a bug**
Working a station on an existing band and then working that station on the
new band does work as expected -- the QSO information is auto-filled and
the QSO is scored correctly
* There is no way to edit the existing 2m band to add FM to it (Why?
Probably because Wayne hasn't gotten around to it yet), and adding it as a
separate band entry (so that there's an entry for 2m USB/LSB and another
for 2m FM) doesn't handle dupes "correctly" -- that is, if I work a station
on 2m USB and then work that station on 2m FM, the second contact isn't
flagged as a dupe. This isn't a bug -- but since there's no way to edit the
band, this will surely bite some people.
* I solved the problem by COMPLETELY removing the existing band definitions
and then re-adding exactly the ones I needed, with separate entries for CW,
FSK and (all the phone modes). This is a fairly time consuming and rigorous
process (if you screw it up, you get to start over from SCRATCH...)
My final band setup looks like this:
1800 - 2000 USB,LSB 160m Ph
3500 - 4000 USB,LSB 80m Ph
7000 - 7300 USB,LSB 40m Ph
14000 - 14350 USB,LSB 20m Ph
21000 - 21450 USB,LSB 15m Ph
28000 - 29700 USB,LSB,FM,AM 10m Ph
50000 - 54000 USB,LSB,FM,AM 6m Ph
144000 - 148000 USB,LSB,FM,AM 2m Ph
222000 - 225000 USB,LSB,FM,AM 1.25mPh
420000 - 450000 USB,LSB,FM,AM 70cm Ph
There is an identical set of entries to the above for CW and another for
FSK. If we were going to go work any other bands (33cm, 23cm, etc.) I would
have added them as well. I didn't worry about programming the phone and CW
sub-band edges, as the operators know where they should be and it's a lot
easier to just remember the outer edges of the entire band.
This is the ONLY way to get WriteLog to score dupes correctly and to
auto-fill information from other bands.
Hope this is helpful -- and by all means, if I've misstated or otherwise
screwed anything up, please let me know!
