[WriteLog] Renaming COM ports??

My system has a single COM port (COM1) on board.  Plus I have added a
Byterunner 4 COM port board, which has generated COM5, 6, 7 and 8.  This is
with Windows-ME.

Unfortunately Writelog does not appear to support com ports higher than 4,
thus I need some way to renumber my high com ports to the lower numbers.  I
recall there is a way to do this, probably by making changes in the
registery.

Can anyone help or point me to the solution?
