Here is another way to easily determine which column "time" begins in:

Load the input txt file into MS Word.  Set the cursor on the first digit of 
the time.  The tool bar at the bottom of the Word page will tell you the 
Column number.  Now, subtract one, because rate.exe counts the first column 
as zero.  Bang, you got it!

In MS Word you can also turn on the "Show/Hide" paragraph marker and count 
the columns yourself.

I do agree with your comments about the output of rate.exe, however.  The 
calculations just don't seem to make sense!  Perhaps Randy can shed some 
light on that???  What are we doing wrong, or what don't we understand???
