Sometimes during an RTTY contest I have run as many as 8 or 10 European
stations in a row where I had to leave the RIT on and at the same setting
otherwise I'd have to re-tune the RIT every Q. This most often seems to happen
on 10 meters??? Am I the only one who has experienced this? I guess this is
why I favor an option to turn off or defeat any such enhancement.

This is sort of like some of the systems we design here at work. If you design
to the requests of one set of users the others might not be happy. So in the
end you design a system that allows some custom tailoring by the end user but
still forces everyone to produce the same outcome.

That would be an excellent option. I routinely use the enter or the keypad
+ to end a contest QSO and QRZ, and having the RIT zero'ed at that time
would be PERFECT for me.
