Gary,

You must be referring to an Icom 756 Pro-II.  The problem is that the default 
CI-V address in the radio is different than what is programmed into WL.

The 756Pro-II's "Other" Menu settings required to talk to WL are as follows:

CI-V baud rate - 9600
CI-V address - 5ch
CI-V transceive - ON
CI-V with IC-731 - OFF

In WL, set your port settings as follows:

Radio - Icom 756 PRO
Baud Rate - 9600
Poll - YES
Comm PTT - Yes
