Sorry, but I just have to jump in. I don't think that
anybody is saying that Writelog networking doesn't
work. What several very technically knowledgable folks
have said is that it doesn't work as well and
consistently as the state of the art permits. (And my
[3rd hand] understanding is that Wayne believes that
too.)
It would be technically possible to make it work
better, and there have been a number of good
suggestions on the reflector as to how this could be
done. If Wayne does upgrade WL networking, it will
probably delay some other improvement, and that may,
or may not, be what his users want.
We certainly had some problems with networking during
last weekend's Field Day, but fortunately we had an
expert on site who was able to fix them quickly. Some
of these problems were initiated by rf getting where
it shouldn't, but that wouldn't have mattered if
recovery had been automatic.
I would personally like to see networking upgraded,
preferably in time for FD next year.
