[WriteLog] Rascal interface

Has anyone ever used a Rascal interface by www.packetradio.com,  K4ABT, 
with Writelog and an Icom 8pin mike connector for PTT?    Im having a 
problem with the xmitter coming up keyed as soon as I select a com port 
in the ports setup.   The Rascal works fine with MMTTY alone and with 
the PSK software that Ive tried and Writelog is the only application I 
have a problem with.  Anyone that could help me on this Id sure
