Calling all WL Voice-Automation buffs...
While trying to resolve some other WL & SO2R config issues, in the middle
of a sleepless night I just discovered a very, very SIMPLE solution to take
WL to the next level for Advanced Contest Voice-Automation. Just a quick
tad of programming is all that's required.
Enhancing WL to 20 SSB messages was a Landmark move (TNX again,
Wayne). But it really requires at least 30 to 40 SSB message slots to do
Voice-Automation more effectively.
Here's the SOLUTION for rapid-deployment of this needed capability...and
beyond!!!
Currently, when WL is in the CW mode, the F-Keys work with the CW
messages. In the SSB mode, the F-keys work with the CW messages. Keeping
this same "automatic" mode recognition in mind...
During an SSB contest, how many WL users make use of ALT + K to send CW to
themselves? Most likely, NONE.
*** BINGO ***
What we are talking about here is UNLIMITED SSB MESSAGE CAPABILITY in WL !!!
In SSB mode, if we can use ALT + K to enter a "blah.wav" filename and have
the .wav file execute/play (just as text entered in the CW mode spits out
Charlie Whiskey), HOT-DIGGITY-DOG!!! In fact, if we can just enter a
filename *without* the .wav extension and have WL automatically add ".wav"
to the entry and play the file even better...especially for on-the-fly use.
I've used X-Keys ( http://www.piengineering.com ) ... both USB or PS/2
versions, to do multiple instant keystroke tasks *without* a Mouse for over
a year.
For example, any X-Key can be programmed to send ANY SSB message with ONE
push of the button:
1. Perform ALT + K
2. Enter "somefilename.wav" on the keyboard --- (Possibly one more "Play"
command might be needed before ESC)
3. Activate the "ESC" key to close the ALT + K window
The great part is that NO MOUSE is required :-)
Once again, what we are talking about here is UNLIMITED SSB MESSAGE
CAPABILITY in WL !!! I'm picturing several more banks of X-Keys "Sticks"
or other X-Keys widgets in service for the "Ultimate Contest
Voice-Automation Machine".
Simple. Elegant. Effective. NEEDED (Desperately). And it's just a few
lines of programming code away :-)
Tnx & 73...
