Hi Phil K3TUF,
You can add stations to the bandmap for future reference without entering
them into the log.
This last weekend during the CQ WW phone contest there were several pileups
that I could not break the first time around. I entered the call on the
bandmap so that the desired callsign was highlighted so that I could easily
return to that frequency.
You may enter the callsign into the entry field/box/window (as you would
likely do in preparing to make a contact during search and pounce
operating). If you then hit the space-bar, the callsign of the station you
are "targeting" will be entered onto the bandmap. You will note that the
colors on the bandmap will highlight those new stations and new multipliers
which you need. If you cannot work the station after several calls, you
may hit <Alt-W> to wipe the entry field/box clean and continue tuning the
band for more workable calls until the pileup on that first station
(hopefully) dies down. The callsign entry which you posted to your own
bandmap will remain on the bandmap for a specified time.
See the help files (or this reflector's archives) for information on how to
keep the posting on the bandmap for longer or shorter time periods than the
WriteLog default (something like 15 - 20 minutes) and how to change the font
in various windows to one that shows slashed-zeros to minimize mistakes on
possibly varing callsigns with 2 digits or visually ambiguous calls (e.g.
S50S or WO0V).
