Gilles,

Im going to send one email per reply to each one of the questions that I've
received in the digest for Writelog.

For starters, here's advice. Unless it's a major issue with the program,
the authors are not going to reply to questions, the rule of thumb with
Writelog is going to basically be trial and error on your part. Try it, if
it doesn't work, reverse what you set and hope for the best.

Second advice, unless you're completely tied to the current configuration of
Writelog, and depending on how long you've had it installed, a removal
(uninstallation) and complete cleansing of the registry is probably a good
best bet. Each successive update does not necessarly contain all previous
updated information. That means that if you got an update 4 years ago, but
missed the following 3 years, and then decided to update yesterday, you will
NOT receive the updates that were distributed in the past 3 years. This was
proven by two separate machines that I owned, both running the exact same
version, yet most of the contest modules did not match date, time, size or
version, and conflicts arose when trying to connect two workstations
together. Don't miss any updates, make sure you install ALL after a time
period, when they're released.

Third advice. All information that controls the program is set in the .ini
file. Your first order of business when you've completed installation of
Writelog is to open the program, click on Help, and then type INI and hit
enter. This will bring up the INI section of the help, with each section of
the ini file. Read through each section because there's no other
documentation nor mention of what the program does except right there. All
questions on the functionality of the program are located in the INI section
of the help file.

Now, on to your first problem. If you've followed the above statement (See
INI section), you'll notice that a good bit of the information you're asking
is contained in the CONFIGURATION section of the ini file. This includes
the location of the files you're looking to change. My first suggestion is
this. Open Windows Explorer, browse to the C:\WINDOWS directory and find
the file WRITELOG.INI. Right click on this file, drag your mouse to the
left and release the right button, left click on Copy Writelog.ini. This
immediately makes a backup of the file. Then go back to your original
Writelog.ini file, double click on it, it will open in Notepad for you to
edit. Browse to the CONFIGURATION section, edit the directories for which
you want to change. Save the ini file and exit Notepad. Start Writelog and
see if the files are located in the places that you are wanting. This
should cover the Wave File location, the Data file location, the Recording
Location and you may have others.

If the locations are satisfactory, and the program appears to continue to
function correctly, then you're all done and you have nothing to worry
about. If the program performs abnormally, then open Windows Explorer,
browse to the Windows directory, delete the Writelog.ini file and rename the
"Copy of Writelog.ini" file to Writelog.ini. At that point, I would suggest
that you uninstall and reinstall the application, paying attention during
the installation when asked for where you prefer to have the program install
itself.

The location of the log files can be changed at the beginning of each
contest. When you've selected the contest you're about to work, save the
contest, select the browse button, and browse to the directory that you've
created, and save the files there.
