Mark,
When I tried to drive share some of my home computers I couldn't consistently
"see" the other computer drives. I found this article and applied the "fix".
This cured my problem. I don't know whether this will solve your issue at hand,
but the article contains some good information about networking and security
settings.

Subject: [WriteLog] Need Help with Networking "Lost connection to ..."
I'm trying to link two computers in a network for
Sweepstakes, but they never seem to connect and I
get an error message "Lost connection to K6SU"
Both computers are Windows XP with short, all
capital letter names (NN7SS and K6SU), same workgroup
and identical user accounts and passwords. File and
Printer sharing works as I can see, open and copy
files back and forth to the other computer's Writelog
folder. I opened the Windows Firewall to Writelog.
But in Writelog, after I "Register to accept network
connections", when I try to "Link to Network" I get
about a 10 second delay and then a Writelog Networking
window that says "Lost connection to K6SU".
I've searched the archives, and checked what
could find there, like "nbtstat -c" does show the other
computer.
Help! Any ideas?
