Rob,

The specific question was whether it was possible to do SO2R
with one sound card and the answer is yes.

The soundcard has two inputs ... left channel and right channel.
One channel is used for each radio.

No, WriteLog allows running two "RTTY Windows" and each one
can select MMTTY and a "TNC." You do need to have MMTTY
installed twice (in separate directories) as explained on
the instructions I posted.

Yes, if you want to operate FSK RTTY you need four serial
ports - they can be "real" serial ports or USB to serial
converters. Two ports will be used for CAT (rig control)
and two will be used for FSK. However, if you have only
two ports, you can use AFSK with software controlled PTT.
The only time you can't use just one sound card is if you
want to decode all four receivers (Left radio main, Left
radio sub, Right radio main, and right radio sub) at the
same time. In that cases , you will have better results
using Don's "two computer SO2R" solution with one computer
per radio (main/sub on left/right of each computer). The
difficult issue with decoding main/sub separately on two
computers (or using multiple decoding algorithms on each
audio stream) is that Writelog does not provide good handles
for "two VFO" operation and it takes some effort to move data
from the additional terminal windows.
