Approximately 10 people have responded to my initial inquiry which is
posted below. Several requested additional information which I will attempt
to
provide. Also, I will give you a brief status update.

The WL software version I am using is the latest which I think is 10.83e.
The keyer in use is the old model W5XD. The rigs I am using are the ICOM
7700 & 7600. Previously I was using the 756PRO2 and did not have this
problem.

Steve, AI9T, told me to go to the menu of the IC-7700 and set the internal
menu option under CW KEYER to straight key. Viola it worked! Now my paddle
is inserted into the W5XD keyer and everything seems to be working
properly. I will play around with the set up tomorrow and should problem
reoccur
I will report back to the group.

Sincere thanks to all that responded with assistance.

My problem continues with WriteLog and Win 7 64 bit.
