John,

You are going to get a plethora of replies. Here's my suggestion.

I just recently did the same thing. My PC functions as a Day Trading
computer/HAM computer. That said, I would strongly suggest you buy a so
called "gaming computer". These systems are very rich with memory for
graphics and support multiple screens. The tremendous processing power of a
liquid cooled i7 Intel processor on an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro mother board works
very well. 8 gigs of RAM and the video card also has 1 gig of ram. Having
the real estate of multiple screens allows you to spread out the WriteLog
software windows quite comfortably. Now this may be over kill for you, but
it is just a suggestion on a place to start if you want to do it correct
from the start. The OS is Win7 Pro 64 bit. It's incredibly fast and
powerful for my needs.

I built mine at www.ibuypower.com. You can too. There are a dozen places on
the web you can do this. Another place comes to mind
www.falcontradingsystems.com. You can adjust the system however you like.
All I can say is I am a very satisfied customer and very happy with the
system I put together. It's certainly not the strongest but it does the job
and then some. Plan on spending some bucks because you get what you pay for.
It's worth it though.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Bye bye Dell!

All,

So my 2005 vintage Dell Home PC just went south. Hard drive is gone.
Backups are there and I could simply rebuild this PC with a new hard
drive. However, this may be an opportunity to step up a little.

So...

If I currently do simple single radio contesting with Writelog and desire
to move to SO2R later, and if I wanted to buy a factory fresh new computer
to support this, what kind, make, shape, etc. computer do you suggest?

WinXP/7?
Home/Pro?
32/64 bit?
Built-in Sound Card or something more exotic?

I am partial to Dells, but that is not set in stone.

Thanks for the tips.

John, kx4o
